In the spring of 2014, the Ministry of Education released How Does Learning Happen?, Ontario’s pedagogy for early years. As you see from my earlier blog this pedagogy directly aligns with our values, beliefs and practice at Compass Early Learning and Care. We are thrilled to know that this pedagogy will be a part of all licensed child care in our Province.
“A key feature of with the new “Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014, (which goes into effect August 31, 2015) is the focus on strengthening child care programs and ensuring high quality experiences for children. As such, subsection 55 (3) of the Child Care and Early Years Act, 2014 authorizes the Minister of Education to issue policy statements for the purpose of guiding operators of child care and early years programs.
The Minister’s policy statement, names How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years (2014) as the document to be used for the purpose of guiding programming and pedagogy in licensed child care programs. Please refer to the Policy Statement for further details. The Minister’s Policy Statement can be found on the Ontario government’s website, FIND IT HERE.
How Does Learning Happen? is intended as a resource for all early years settings. At Compass Early Learning and Care we believe as the province does that every child, family and educator should feel a sense of belonging, well being, feel as though they have a voice and be actively engaged in learning together.
The resource can be found on the Ministry of Education’s website, FIND IT HERE.
