About Us

Compass Early Learning and Care (ELC) is a purpose-led, value-based organization where children are at the heart of all that we do.  Our pedagogy is rooted in care, guided by How Does Learning Happen? Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years and inspired by the Reggio-Emilia approach.

Compass ELC is a non-profit, charitable organization established in 1981. We currently offer early learning and care (licensed infant, toddler, preschool, kindergarten, and school age; EarlyON; and Forest and Nature programs) at over 40 locations and support many licensed Home Childcare programs.

We are a passionate, caring network of over 700 employees and 80 home childcare providers, together serving over 5,000 families in Peterborough, City of Kawartha Lakes, Haliburton, Durham and Northumberland. We believe in nurturing kind hearts and a passion for learning by being grounded in a collective purpose, set of values and vision for the future.

Purpose

Growing and learning together with kind, caring, compassionate hearts.

Vision

We envision a world where each of us feels we belong; children are respected as citizens of today; families feel valued and supported; early learning and care teams are recognized for their significant contributions; and all peoples and Mother Earth have what they need to thrive.
