Compass ELC held its annual Employee Recognition and Celebration event on October 16th at The Ranch in Bethany. Executive Director Sheila Olan-MacLean welcomed everyone and, together with Director of Human Resources Jenny Cullen, presented a newly developed Total Person Compensation package to employees. The management team is making every effort to devise ways to further enhance compensation for our dedicated employees.
Associate Executive Director Lorrie Baird, presented our newly expanded Pedagogical Themes. For more details on these themes, please refer to above newsletter story “How do we change the world?”.
We were thrilled to have author & Harvest Resources cofounder Deb Curtis as our keynote motivational speaker. Deb, an incredible mentor to our staff for seven years now, reflected on her time spent with us and commended employees for achieving excellence in early learning and care. Lorrie Baird is pictured here presenting Deb with a token of our appreciation. The Blue Jays were playing the night of this event and Deb is an avid Blue Jays fan.
As long standing employees were being recognized, all attendees were encouraged to form a circle based on years of service. The circle was connected by having our longest standing employee, Jill, join hands with our newest team member, Mary. Once the circle was formed, employees were presented tree of knowledge pendants engraved with “Compass ELC – Inspire” to recognize and convey how much they inspire the executive team, and more importantly the children, every day through their work.
One of the highlights from the evening was the Affirmation Tree. The names of all employees, home child care providers, volunteers and board members were written on name tags and placed alphabetically on a table. Attendees were then encouraged to write words of affirmation on the name tags. The tags were then hung on a tree and everyone immensely enjoyed reading the inspirational comments.
